Kilkenny Lane Country Park is in Carterton. We spotted signs for it when visiting Crocodiles Of The World and Carterton Soft Play And Trampoline Park. This weekend we decided to go back and check it out.
The country park isn’t as big as I expected it to be and its right next to a housing estate which seemed a bit odd! Having said that, we discovered it’s a really nice place. It has a huge adventure play park which the kids absolutely loved. I didn’t take many photos as there were lots of other kids around but it has a huge wooden jungle gym climbing frame, slides, zip wire, swinging rope hammocks, swings, large sandpit with diggers, trampolines and more. It was brilliant for all ages. There were some benches and a wooden pavilion to sit and watch from.
We went for a walk around the wildflower meadows in the country park. There is a 2.5km marked walk so it’s not too big. We found a quiet spot to have a picnic and the kids played.
Further along our walk we found some amazing horse statues. Now I must confess that after we’d been playing on the statues we discovered a plaque on the other side of the path with info about them and at the bottom it states ‘please do not climb’. Oops! So yeah, don’t climb on the horses!
The Verdict
We had a lovely time at Kilkenny Lane Country Park and I would visit again as the park was fab. The pathways were pushchair friendly and dogs are allowed. There is a small free car park and plenty of parking along the surrounding roads. Toilets are in the car park but beware they cost 20p to use and had no toilet roll! The bins on the site were also overflowing so be prepared to take rubbish home with you.
