We’ve had an absolute blast today at Cotswold View in Charlbury playing disc golf. It’s not something we’ve ever tried before, although I’ve seen it and always wanted to have a go. Disc golf is like a normal game of golf in that you start from the tee and you have a round of 9 or 18 to complete. Instead of golf clubs and balls though you have a Frisbee disc which you have to get in a metal basket. The idea is to get it in the basket with as few throws as possible.

Initially we were just going to do the 9 basket beginners course but as we were having so much fun we decided to carry on and do the full 18 (moving up to intermediate). The three levels beginner, intermediate and professional all have different starting points to tee off from at each basket. Beginners obviously tee off closer to the baskets than intermediate and professional, so you can choose which level you want to challenge yourself with.

There isn’t a minimum or maximum age limit for disc golf, it’s very much encouraged to be a family affair. My youngest is 4 and although he took more throws than the rest of us he still really enjoyed it.

Cotswold View is at Banbury Hill Farm in Charlbury. It’s also home to a lovely campsite, tennis courts and The Old Shed cafe. There is plenty of free parking and such a lovely chilled out vibe there. They have farm animals for you to visit, a football pitch, outdoor gym equipment, zip wire and lovely woodland walks. Currently there is a dinosaur trail through the woods to enjoy as well and maps are only £1 each.

In total we took about 3 hours to complete the course. That includes a brief stop for some picnic food and a play on the zip line. You could easily make it a longer day with the dinosaur trail and a cake in The Old Shed as well. Tickets for a family of 4 costs £25, which I don’t think is too bad for an activity lasting that long. It includes hire of a disc each and of course a scorecard. The course is open daily 9am-5pm and you don’t need to book unless you are a group of 15 people or more.
