*AD This week we were invited along to try out ‘The Airline’ airport transfer service from Oxford Bus Company. ‘The Airline’ coach service has numerous pick up points across Oxford and transfers to both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. It runs 24/7 365 days of the year with plenty of departures throughout the day.
Due to Covid-19 we had to scrap our travel plans this year so sadly weren’t due to take any flights. We decided to take a trip from the Thornhill Park & Ride stop to Gloucester Green and back again though to try the service out.
The boys were incredibly excited as it was their first time on a bus. They’ve started high as I really don’t think we’d find a more luxurious service if we tried! The seats were so comfortable and I was really impressed with the leg room. At 5″ 8′ I’m not exactly short and often my legs are squashed against the seat in front. Not here though. There was plenty of room for me to sit comfortably with room to spare.
The cabin has air conditioning, a toilet and all the seats have USB ports. Really handy if you need to charge devices or work during your journey. Keeping the kids occupied with their tablets plugged in charging is also a game changer. There’s free WiFi on board too!
Every driver we came in to contact with was very helpful. I’m absolutely rubbish when it comes to public transport and with us not actually going to the airport I got myself in a bit of a muddle about where we needed to be. The first driver we met pointed me in the right direction though. One of the drivers also offered me a booster seat for Baby Bear.
To purchase tickets for ‘The Airline’ you can book in advance on the website, via the Oxford Bus Company app or pay the driver using contactless onboard up to £45. Groups of 10 or more people receive discount so contact the bookings team. With the app you track your coach’s journey. You’ll also receive £5 off your first purchase using the code OBCAPP.
Travel Safe During Covid-19
‘The Airline ‘ has an enhanced cleaning programme now in place. The coach is disinfected after each round trip using a STORM system. This is a spray chemical back pack used to spray all the seats down. Touch points are also wiped down. The drivers all wear masks and have a protective plastic screen between you and them. Anyone over the age of 11 is expected to wear a face mask while onboard in line with Government Guidelines. We didn’t have any issues with social distancing at all either on the coach or while waiting to board. Everyone respected each others space and sat apart. We only had a maximum of 3 other people on the coach at any time during our journeys which was great. I was nervous about going but on the day we felt completely safe. I wouldn’t hesitate to travel on ‘The Airline’ again.
We really enjoyed our trip on ‘The Airline’. It felt completely Covid safe, the staff were all lovely and the seats were so comfortable. I think this is a brilliant way to get to and from the airport. It was hassle-free and was lovely to travel in style. I would certainly use the service again next time we need to get to the airport.
