Halloween is fast approaching and the kids are so excited!  They are planning their outfits and eagerly anticipating the shenanigans our annual Halloween party.  It’s always a day full of fun and games.  Do your kids really get in to Halloween?  I’ve asked my fellow bloggers to share their favourite Halloween crafts and activities for getting into the ‘spirit’ of things.

Crafts

If you are lucky enough to own a cricut machine then this one is for you. I love this Hocus Pocus mason jar decoration shared by Jenny at The Gingerbread House. The jar has one of my favourite quotes from the movie on it! Find out how to make it here: Hocus Pocus Mason Jar

These pom pom spiders are great Halloween crafts for decorating your house with. You could sit them on a shelf or hang them from the ceiling. I would recommend getting a proper pom pom maker as they make life so much easier with this. Gone are the days of using cardboard circles like I remember doing in school! Here’s how to make them: Pom Pom Spiders

Catherine’s spider plant pots are a great way to theme your home (or garden!) for the spooky season. All you need is some black pipe cleaners, googley eyes and the black plastic plant pots that most plants come in. I love crafts that are simple yet effective! Here’s how Catherine at Growing Family made them: Spooky Spider Plants

We love to make our own homemade decorations whenever we can and these pumpkin paper lanterns are perfect! All you need is a sheet of orange card and a little green piece for the stem. Super easy Halloween crafts! Sarah-Marie from Tired But Crafty Mummy shares how to make them here: Pumpkin Paper Lanterns

Crafts that can double up as gifts or keepsake decorations to bring out every year are my fave! I absolutely adore this fingerprint pumpkin craft by Jenny at The Gingerbread House (you’ll find lots of her crafts on my blog as she has so many fab ideas!). The kids can all join in using their fingerprints and you can keep it as a memento of how little they once were. Even tiny tots can join in with making this. You could use a paper mache pumpkin from a craft store or a ceramic one would also look cute. Here’s how Jenny made hers: Fingerprint Pumpkin

Last year me and the kids used some old wood to make graves for our Halloween house decorating. We nailed them into a cross shape and then spray-painted them black. Once it was dry we used white paint to write the names on them. They looked fab in our front garden for Halloween! Better still we were able to keep them in the loft to use year after year. Have a go at making some yourself!

Another one of our favourite Halloween crafts last year was making this pumpkin bunting. We used paper plates and painted them orange. We then used black paint or sharpie pens to put different face designs on them. Another simple, yet effective craft that kids of all ages can have a go at.

Staying with the theme of using recycling at home, Jenni from The Bear And The Fox has made these fab tombstones using cereal boxes! What spooky names can you come up with to put on them? Here’s the link to how she made them: Cereal Box Tombstones

Activities

Jenny from The Gingerbread House has shared this fun science experiment she did with her kids using Skittles! Use orange and green skittles to make a pumpkin shape on a plate then watch to see what happens when you add water. Full details here: Pumpkin Experiment

This pumpkin fairy house shared by Catherine from Growing Family is the cutest thing ever! Autumn is my favourite time of year. I’d always associated fairies as being more of a Spring thing but I love this Autumnal take on a fairy garden. It’s so sweet! The little ladder is simple enough for children to make too. Here’s Catherine’s blog post on how she did it: Pumpkin Fairy House

I absolutely adore these broomstick party bags made by Wendy at Daisy and Pie. How great do they look?! Super simple and low cost to make as well. I think they’re a great little goody bag for Halloween parties or to give out to trick or treaters. Here’s how to make them: Broomstick Party Bags
