Clip n Climb Slough

A few months ago I spotted some cheap tickets to Clip n Climb Slough on Groupon. We’ve never been to a Clip n Climb centre before but have always wanted to. When I saw the tickets less than half price I decided we just had to give it a go! Unfortunately Baby Bear is too young to take part at 3 years of age so he stayed with Nanny while I took the big kids.

We arrived at Slough Ice Arena and waited for our turn on the Clip n Climb walls. I surprised to find they are basically in the middle of the reception foyer which admittedly felt a little odd! It’s a very small area but I guess height is the main thing needed. There isn’t much seating for spectators and there wasn’t a cafe or anything open when we visited, although I understand there is one there.

The Clip n Climb area has 10 climbing walls to choose from. They all have different themes and some are easier than others. The walls use an automatic belay system which keeps climbers safe without needing assistance.

Before your session begins you have a safety briefing and get harnessed up. You then choose your first wall to start on and get ready to climb. We really liked competing against each other on ‘Face To Face’ which is a clear wall with moulds either side so you can see your competitor.

The ‘Big Cheese’ was mine and Big Bro’s favourite climbing wall. It’s aimed at beginners so was ideal for us! Big Bro has a real fear of heights and this wall really helped him to grow in confidence. He didn’t manage to get far off the ground but the bit he did manage was a great achievement for him.

Big Sis has done climbing before with scouts and had no hesitation in climbing to the top of every wall she attempted. She’s so fast and confident it blows my mind! Once she reached the top and hit the button she let go and bounced her way back down to the floor. I need a bit more practice to get her confidence.

We had a really fun hour long session climbing the different walls. The instructors were good and the place was clean and well maintained. It felt very safe and I’d definitely use a Clip n Climb centre again. In future I think we’ll try out a larger site to see what it’s like.
