Happy New Year!  Welcome to the very first ‘whats on’ listing of 2018 – woohoo!  This month is all about those new year resolutions.  Have a look at your local National Trust venue for some lovely walks as we try to kick start our ‘get fit’ ‘lose weight’ new year resolutions.   Also have a look at our listing of free places to visit to help you save those pennies too.  There are still quite a few ongoing events happening at the moment so do scroll all the way down to the bottom of the post to see them.


  • Turn a cardboard box into a beasts lair at the Roald Dahl Museum. 11am-5pm.   Free with museum admission.
  • Historical coin handling session at Ashmolean Museum 11:30-3:30pm. Free entry.

  • Illuminated woodland walk at Basildon Park 10am-5pm daily until 7th January. Normal admission fees apply.
  • Billy and The Minpins exhibition at the Roald Dahl Museum. 7th September 2017- 15th April 2018
  • The BFG in Pictures.  An exhibition of Quentin Blake’s illustrations at the River and Rowing Museum in Henley 19th October 2017-21st January 2018. Normal admission fees apply.
  • Christmas scarecrow trail in East Hendred village.  Pick up your map for £1 from the village shop.  16th December – 6th January 2018.
  • Elf Trail in Didcot.  Pick up a map from Cornerstone or Changing Lives Charity Shop for £1.  Saturday 16th December – 6th January 2018.
  • From 2nd -7th January enjoy trail sheets around the British Motor Museum and listen as costumed character ‘Torchy Blane’ reports on ‘new’ cars from 1927!
  • An exhibition of winter lanterns and theatre design with sketches and designs from the hit show The Nutcracker & The Mouse King at Cornerstone Arts Centre, Didcot.  Wednesday 22nd November – Sunday 7th January Free entry.
