Summer Holiday 2017 Activities and Events

Here is this summers list of activities and events in the Oxfordshire area.  Whatever you end up doing, have a good one!

24th June – 24th September – Peter Rabbit interactive exhibition at River & Rowing Museum. Help Miss Tiggywinkle hang up her washing, visit Mrs Rabbits burrow and plant carrots in Mr McGregors garden.

14th July – 3rd September – seaside themed maze and activities at Millets Farm every day 9:30am-6pm.

21st July – Craft event with No Two Things at Didcot Library 2-4pm for ages 4-11 years (Free event)

21st July – 3rd September – fairy tale trails around the Waterperry Gardens. Follow the clues and compass directions tonfind fairy tale characters. £3 per child with a free compass and prize. Adults normal garden entry fee applies.

22nd July – 3rd September – the Big dinosaur show at Lookout Discovery Centre daily.

22nd July – 9th September – Dinosaur World at Banbury Museum from 10:30am every day. Make your own dinosaur land, fossil collage, dinosaur masks and even a hatching dinosaur baby. £2 per child.

22nd July – archaeological excavation at Wallingford Museum 11am. Take part in pot washing, sieving and learn how to identify and date artefacts. Have a go at making your own pot too. £5 adults, children free.

22nd July – Eccentric stories from Elys Dolan at the Roald Dahl Museum. 12pm,  1:30pm and 3pm.  Stories, drawing and lots of laughter. £3 plus museum entry.

22nd-23rd July – classic vehicles weekend at Chiltern Open Air Museum from 10am.

22nd July – 5th August – Wantage Lego expo at Vale and Donwland Museum from 9:30am every day.

23rd July – Ferrari family day 10-5pm at Blounts Court Road, Sonning Common.  Driver experiences, car displays, bouncy castles, air ambulance, food court, etc.  £5 per adult, children under 12 free (all proceeds to Thames Valley Air Ambulance).

24th July – 10th September – Wonder Woods adventure play park at Stoner open every day throughout the holidays.

25th July – use your detective skills to find the secret destination where you can explore, build and play at the Earth Trust Centre. Suggested donation £4.

25th July – Curious cats craft activities for 3-11 year olds at Didcot Library.  2-3pm (Free).

26th July – Mad Hatters tea party at Hughenden Manor. Bring a picnic 12pm. Free with admission.

26th July – Dinosaur day at Banbury Museum with a dinosaur hunt at 11am followed by story telling. £4 per child.

26th July – Animal meet and greet at Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre.  £4.50 per person.  Meerkats, african hedgehogs, parrots, gambian pouch rats and more. 10am-4pm.

27th July – Peter Rabbit games and crafts at River & Rowing Museum. Free with admission.

27th July – Storytime for juniors age 5-9 years 2-2:30pm at Didcot Library (Free).

27th July – 31st August – every Thursday 12pm and 2pm take a peek into the Roald Dahl archives at the authors original manuscripts and other items. £1 plus museum entry at the Roald Dahl Museum.

29th July – Pitt Fest. Annual festival at Pitt Rivers Museum from 10:30am including object handling, crafts, special guests and live music.

29th-30th July – Medieval living history event at Chiltern Open Air Museum.  Join the knights school for 5-11 year olds, watch sword fighting demonstrations and cheer on your favourite knight in the tournament.  Normal admission charges apply.

30th July – vintage transport festival at Oxford Bus Museum from 12pm with free vintage bus rides throughout the day.

31st July – Fun in the Park at Stephen Freeman School 2-4pm.  Climbing wall, bouncy castles, face painting and more.

31st July & 1st August – Mr Muddle’s Magical Mayhem show at Stephen Freeman School 10-11:30am

2nd August – paint your own fairy or gnome and create an enchanting fairy door. Followed by a yummy chocolate treat and a drink. £6 per child at Millets Farm Centre (booking essential).

2nd August – Bicester play and activity day at Garth Park. Free event by Oxfordshire Play Association.

3rd-6th August – BBC Countryfile Live at Blenheim Palace.  Animals to pet and handle, farm machinery, demonstrations, food court, lots of ‘have a go’ activities.

3rd August – Dizzy Dean’s magic show at Didcot Library 2-3pm. Free of charge. Booking essential.

3rd August – Art and craft workshop at Boundary Park 2-4pm as well as woodfired pizza making and Oxfordshire Fire Service visit.

5th August – join the team from Satellite Applications Catapult for a day of making volcanoes, monitoring spacecraft and building a real life satellite at Modern Art Oxford. Free entry, booking essential.

5-6th August – Highwaymen living history event at Chiltern Open Air Museum. Learn about life in the 18th century with costumed characters around the museum.

6th August – pond dipping from 10am at Earth Trust Centre. Suggested donation £4.

8th-10th August – 2 night camp at Stowe Landscape Gardens with nature walks, activities and marshmallow toasting.

9th August – rotten Romans event at Abingdon County Hall. At 10:30am and 1pm make shields, mosaics and more.

9th August – Clive Goddard drawing workshop for children aged 5-11 years.  2-3:30pm at Didcot Library. (Free)

9th August – wildlife Wednesday at Wallingford Castle Meadows. Check the night traps for wildlife 10am. Suggested donation £2 per child.

9th August – Animal meet and greet at Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre with a reptiles and minibeasts theme.  £4.50 per person. Snakes, bearded dragons, tarantulas, scorpions and more.  10am-4pm.

10th August – horsey fables with author Gavin Puckett.  £3 plus museum entry at Roald Dahl Museum.

12th-13th August – Ragged victorians living history event at Chiltern Open Air Museum.  Meet characters in costume including the rat catcher and doctor with real leaches!  Normal admission charges apply.

13th August – Cowley classic car and family fun day at Court Place Farm from 11am. Over 250 classic vehicles on display, dog show, childrens rides, police dog display, farmyard and more. £4 per adult, under 12s free.

16th August – wildlife Wednesday at Mowbray Fields. Check the traps for night time wildlife from 10am. Suggested donation £2 per child.

19th-20th August – Tudor courtroom event at Chiltern Open Air Museum. Join in to help decide the rights and wrongs of each case. 10am.

21st August – Animal agents craft workshop for children 3-11 years. Didcot Library 2-3:30pm. (Free)

22nd-24th August – ‘Who’s Living At The Bottom Of The Garden?’ event at Sutton Courtenay Nature Reserve.  Trail and crafts.  £4 per child. Book online in advance.

24th August – under the sea themed activities at River & Rowing Museum. 10:30am. Free with admission.

25th August – Animal masks craft activity for 5-11 years.  Didcot library 2-3pm (Free).

25th – 28th August – Towersey Festival. Music festival , dance, workshops, etc.

26th August – Emergency services and family fun day at Edmonds Park, Didcot.  11am-4pm.  See the emergency service vehicles and equipment.  Bouncy castles, face painting and more.  Free event.

27th August – Fun Day at Boundary Park 12-6pm raising money for Oxford Children’s Hospital.  Bouncy castles, face painting, stalls, tug of war, bubble football, funfair rides and more.  Free entry.

27th – 28th August – Tudor living history event at Chiltern Open Air Museum from 10am.

28th August – open day at Pitstone Green Museum. Rural life exhibits. 11am.

29th August – Sneaky snakes craft acitivites for 3-11 year olds.  Didcot library 2-3pm (free).

30th August – free open day at Stowe Landscape Gardens from 10am.

30th August – Childrens bushcraft workshops for age 7 years + at Sutton Courtenay Nature Reserve.  Learn how to build a campfire, cook a tasty treat and try out traditional woodland skills.  2 hour session costing £4 per child. Book online in advance.

30th August – Science Oxford Library Tour 2:30-3:30pm at Didcot Library.  Free of charge but must be booked in advance).

2nd September – Stories and fun with Pip Jones, author of Squishy McFluff.  £3 plus museum entry at Roald Dahl Museum.
