This weekend we were very kindly invited to see what’s on this half term at Waddesdon Manor (*PR trip) in Buckinghamshire. Whilst the house is currently closed for the Winter, there is still plenty to explore in the grounds at Waddesdon Manor. As National Trust members we have visited several times before but we still really enjoy ourselves each time we visit. I must make sure we visit this Summer as we always seem to end up here during the Winter months!
This half term at Waddesdon Manor, doodle artist Scott Walker is in residence in the stables gallery doing live drawings. Families are invited to join in the fun by colouring in his doodles on the gallery walls or having a go at drawing their own on the craft tables. It was incredible to watch Scott in action bringing the walls to life with so many fun characters. He based his drawings around the theme of plants and animals to link in with Waddesdon. We love his style and were excited to purchase a large poster and several postcards of his work (which he very kindly signed for us!) from the Stables Gift Shop.
After an hour or so in the gallery we headed up through the woodland boardwalk trail to burn off some energy on the play equipment. I love this walk. Although it’s uphill, the winding boardwalk through the trees, palms and shrubs is just lovely. The boardwalk is accessible for pushchairs and wheelchairs. There are numerous wooden play structures along the way for all ages to enjoy. My kids particularly love the big tunnel slide!
Once we’d had a good play in the woods we took a stroll along the paths to the aviaries. The aviaries at Waddesdon Manor are absolutely stunning. They are the grandest aviaries I have ever seen! We enjoyed spotting the birds and listening to the different sounds. The Common Hill Myna birds were our favourite. One in particular sounded like it was talking to us. I plan to return again in the Spring/Summer when the flowers are all in bloom in this area. We were lucky enough to spot lots of lovely snowdrops on this visit.
Kids can visit free of charge this half term at Waddesdon Manor. Entry to the Doodle Jam gallery is also free. Adult grounds tickets cost £12.50 (free for National Trust members) and there is a small additional fee for the shuttle bus from the car park up to the manor house. I would recommend doing this as its a long walk with little ones! Dogs are welcome on leads except in the play areas and restaurant. They can also ride on the bus.
