So today was the first day of our week long challenge to try and find free activities and not spend a penny on entertainment all week. I decided last night to plan an Autumn themed scavenger hunt to do at the nature reserve just down the road from us (literally!) so we could also walk the dog at the same time. I then found out that there were painted rocks being hidden in that area as well for us to try and find so that added a more exciting dimension to things as well.
I wrote out a check list in Autumnal colours on a piece of paper for us to take with us on our walk. We put on our coats and wellies and off we went!
I was a little worried that my 10 year old stepdaughter would find this really boring but actually she threw herself into finding things on the list and really enjoyed it! We couldn’t find any conkers or acorns unfortunately but did manage to find everything else.
We then decided to look for the painted rocks that were hidden in the area. After much searching – and I literally mean every tree, fence post, bench etc – we finally found this stunning owl rock at the foot of a large tree. How exciting! It was worth the effort.
We continued our walk exploring the rest of the nature reserve and the nearby Neptune Woods. The kids climbed trees and rocks, found blackberries and various weird and wonderful plants. Willow enjoyed exploring just as much as the kids and had a great time following them around.
After our long walk we headed home for some lunch. Tomato soup to warm us up and yummy soda ‘Grannys’ bread to go with it. The kids have then spent some time relaxing and playing on their Ipads in the care of Daddy while I was at work this afternoon and have now gone straight to bed and fallen fast asleep. Amazing what a good bit of fresh air can do! Now to plan tomorrow’s activities! What have you been up to today?
