Green Dragon Rare Breeds Farm and Eco Centre is, as the name suggests, a farm park full of rare breeds of animals. If you think you’ve seen sheep before I can assure you that you haven’t seen the sheep at this place!haha! The farm is bursting with different animals to see including farm stock, pets and wild animals too.
There are all different breeds of well known farm animals such as sheep, cows, goats, pigs and chickens. We enjoyed feeding them special food we purchased at the entrance. The goats are very cheeky and like to get a close as possible to see if you have any food. Some of the animals were in the barns while others were out in the fields. There is a farm trail to follow to meet them all, with information boards about them along the way.
You can enjoy hands-on experiences at Green Dragon with donkey and Shetland pony grooming for just 50p per person too.
As well as farm animals there are lot of furry and exotic pets in Pets Corner. We saw gerbils, hamsters, snakes, frogs, stick insects, mini-beasts and lots more. I particularly liked the chameleon. They were all in glass tanks so were easy to watch and see up close.
As well as all that there is now a wildlife zone to enjoy too. Here you can find reindeer, birds of prey, wallabies, lynx and the stunning silver foxes. There is a flying display and bird encounter in the undercover arena. It costs £1 extra per person but is well worth going to see. We loved getting to know more about the birds and seeing them fly to their handler.
My favourite animal in this area is the silver foxes. They are just so stunning and fascinating to watch. I’ve never seen one before but they really are beautiful.
Once you’ve had enough of seeing all the animals there’s a fab adventure playground for the kids to let off steam. There’s a smaller play park next to it as well for under 5s. The kids absolutely loved it and didn’t want to leave.
They also loved the pedal karts which were great fun and the giant bouncy cushion.
There are several trails to follow at Green Dragon, including the nature trail which takes in the wildflower meadow. There’s also the walled garden and orchard to enjoy, with lots to learn about the eco farm along the way. The cafe sells home grown or locally sourced produce as much as possible. Both the on-site cafes have vegetarian and gluten free options too. There’s even a pizza take-away on Saturdays cooked in the farm’s very own outdoor dragon-head oven!
Green Dragon Rare Breeds Farm and Eco Centre is a really great farm park with a huge variety of animals to see. The play areas are excellent and the whole site was really well maintained and thought out. Like most places we visit my kids wanted to spend most of the time in the play area so I’m going to have to go back again without them to see the animals properly. It gives me an excuse to go back anyway!
